It looks like Netflix can’t get enough of adaptations. But in all fairness, that makes sense as they are far safer bets than entirely original shows.
Heartstopper is another such adaptation based on the eponymous book series authored by Alice Oseman.
The show involves two boys who find out they have feelings for each other. It seems to be a show that handles sensitive issues with heart and tenderness. Originally launched as a webcomic, it gained enough traction to be published as a book series. There are three volumes of the book series, with a fourth one on the way.
A coming of age show being directed by a reputed director (Euros Lyn of Sherlock and Doctor Who fame), there is understandable hype around it to warrant international attention. Here is what we know so far:

Netflix has made the official teaser for the show public on YouTube, and its reception has been stellar. The trailer promises a heartfelt and thought-provoking new show to add to Netflix’s catalog of such shows.
The show is an adaptation of the eponymous book series, and it tells the story of two boys in a British grammar school. One of them is an overthinker, and the other is a meek-mannered rugby player.
One day, the two of them are made to sit together in their class and begin to click. It eventually leads to a relationship involving them opening up about their love, loyalty, friendship, and mental illness.
Looking at the subject matter, we can expect it to be an emotionally charged and dramatic show that also hits us right in our feelings and melts our hearts while also tugging at our heartstrings.
Heartstopper Premiere Date
Heartstopper is set to drop on Netflix on the 22nd of April. However, having commenced production a year ago, in January 2021, it is finally ready to be released, with all episodes releasing simultaneously.
Netflix seems to be making intelligent decisions by adapting more relatively unknown works of literature into successful shows for their roster. So far, they seem to be doing a more than stellar job, except for a few misfires here. Unfortunately, Heartstopper looks like it belongs to the former rather than the latter.
It is poised to be another successful addition to their stable of shows. They undoubtedly will renew for multiple seasons, seeing how the original work consists of four volumes.
It should be an exciting watch when it finally drops on the 22nd of April. Stay tuned and bookmark this page for further updates and news regarding the show.
